Tutoring and Year 6

Year 6 is a pivotal and memorable year.

There are SATs and transition, but also year 6 plays and concerts, residentials and the much-anticipated leavers’ service. These experiences help to build strong friendships and create lasting memories. Year 6 is a very special and significant time in a child’s life.

Many year 6 pupils start to feel too ‘grown up’ for primary school but still want to cling on to the familiar and safe. They are facing not only all these changes at school, but they are also on the brink of adolescence, with all that involves. It’s a year of high emotions, for children and families (and their teachers!)

One of the main challenges is preparing for the SATs; the pressure to perform well can be stressful, but it’s also a chance for the children to demonstrate their learning and growth. It’s a rite of passage and often celebrated with SATs breakfasts and treats or picnics afterwards.

But it can still be worrying for both children and their parents.

If your child would like some extra support in year 6, I will be holding year 6 support tutoring sessions from September, one to one, in a small group and online.

Having taught year 6 for several years during my primary teaching career, I have considerable experience in preparing children for SATs and understanding the joys and challenges of year 6.
