Can we learn from the Covid 19?
Can we learn something from the spread of Covid 19?
Virus, bacteria, fungi and protozoa, all of those pathogens can cause our immune system to go on high alert, fighting for us to survive. Obviously, my thoughts are triggered by the Corona virus (Covid 19) attack which shows how fragile we are but also our financial markets.
Our way of life is dominated by travelling around the world, being party animals at large scale events and are dependent on short term supply. This is not only for our own daily food and ebay shopping, but our industry, too, relies entirely on parts delivered daily via road, planes etc in their ‘just in time’ production.
Time to think about sustainability
Maybe it is time to think about all of this? Are we living a sustainable way of life? Is our industry fit for purpose? Does the pharmaceutical industry invest enough in research to be able to react quickly enough to an outbreak like this? Maybe real collaboration is needed, not financially incentivised competition between the most gifted scientists. Having worked in the scientific community both Gaby and myself have experienced exactly that. Maybe our politicians need to be more honest, i.e. transparent to fight outbreaks like this more effectively.
Lockdown on the horizon
By the time you read this article we might all sit at home because of a lockdown situation to delay the spread of the corona virus. It will be an interesting and maybe eye-opening experiment which might offers us an opportunity to value life over consumption and profits. Hence, let us stay calm, rational and caring for our fellow citizens in society.
Thank you to two people answering the leap year question. In short it takes the earth 365.25 days to orbit the sun thus we need every four years one extra day. Todays question is why do viruses like the Covid 19 suddenly appear? So, work it out and email it to me at railsfarm@phonecoop.coop
Cheerio,
